Community Of Malawians In Tanzania Donates Items Worth Mk3.5 Million Towards The Flood Victims In Malawi
Following the declaration of a State of National Disaster by His Excellency, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, due to the floods that affected different parts of the country, the Community of Malawians in Tanzania who are based in Dar Es Salaam and Arusha, under the guidance of Her Excellency Mrs Hawa Ndilowe, Malawi's High Commissioner to Tanzania, thought it wise to heed to government's call by taking part in making a donation towards those who were affected by the floods.
The donations were contributed by Malawians living in Dar es Salaam and Arusha, Diplomats at the Malawi High Commission and the Malawi Cargo Centres Limited. The Malawian Airline also provided two free return tickets excluding tax from Dar es Salaam to Lilongwe and 150kg baggage allowance.
The donations included 657 (20kg) bags of maize flour, 3 bales of second hand clothes and medical equipment for a maternity wing. The total cost of the donation was about MK3.5 million
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Malawi Government, the Principal Secretary and Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, Mr. Paul Chiunguzeni hailed the Malawian Community in Tanzania for the kind gesture. He noted that the donations will go a long way in meeting some basic needs of the people affected by the floods.
